Okay so I own three corduroy dresses and I have worn, combined, all three of them, maybe nine times total since October. That math is bad. That math is embarrassing actually, because every single one got bought with a whole vision attached, like a farmers market vision, a “walking around in golden hour looking like I have my life together” vision, and then they just sat there being very cute and very stationary on the hanger while I wore leggings four days in a row like a normal disaster.
Sent a photo of the burgundy one to the chat back in November, full outfit, boots, the whole bit, and got “obsessed” from one person and “when are you actually leaving the house in this” from another, and that second person was annoyingly correct because I did not leave the house in it for another six weeks.
So that’s the actual fight I keep having, not with anyone specific, just with myself and the version of me who buys these things: how often do we THINK we’re going to wear a corduroy dress versus how often it happens. In my head it’s a twice a week fall staple.

In real life it’s a special occasion piece disguised as a casual one, which nobody warns you about when you’re clicking add to cart at 1am picturing yourself very autumn coded.

The ironing dread is real and I will die on this. That pile holds a wrinkle like it’s personal, and I have genuinely stood in front of a mirror steaming a dress for eleven minutes for a fifteen minute grocery run, questioning my whole life.
After the first wash though, something shifts. The stiffness goes, the sound goes from that loud corduroy swish swish everyone can hear you coming in to something quieter, softer, way more wearable, and the pile flattens just enough on the parts that actually move, like the seat and the underarms, so it stops looking so brand new and starts looking like a dress you own instead of a dress you’re borrowing from a catalog.
The mustard one is my gamble pick and I’ll say that outright, it filmed INCREDIBLE, looked like actual sunshine on camera, and in person under regular light it reads a little more school nurse than I’d like. Not for everyone. Possibly not for me, still deciding, currently 0 for 4 on wearing it past my own front porch.
The one I actually reach for is the plain chocolate brown mini, no pattern, no drama, and that’s the one that quietly became a favorite while I wasn’t paying attention, which tracks, because that’s basically never the one I think it’s going to be.
