Okay so almost everybody in my apartment (me, my roommate, the group chat) agrees that burgundy wide leg pants are the single best pant color decision of this entire season, and then there’s one dissenting vote, my roommate, who thinks burgundy reads “resident of a haunted mansion” and refuses to be moved on it. She said it while I was mid photoshoot in mine on the living room floor and I just kept shooting because she’s wrong and the lighting was too good to stop for an argument.
Here’s the thing about these that made me actually get it though, they layer under a coat in a way that black trousers just don’t, there’s something about that deep wine color peeking out under a camel coat that photographs like a whole outfit even when it’s freezing and you’re wearing three shirts underneath. And I mean THREE, I tested it, turtleneck, then a button up over it half open, then the coat, and the waist is high enough and roomy enough that nothing bunched up weird at my stomach, which is not a sentence I get to say often.
The train test is the real test though, not the mirror test. Wide leg anything has a villain arc on public transit, it catches on the pole, it drags on the platform, it gets stepped on by a stranger’s backpack, I’ve lived it.

These stayed put mostly because the hem sits right at the top of my sneaker instead of pooling on the floor like fabric soup, so you actually see a sliver of shoe, which matters more than it should for making the whole thing look on purpose instead of accidental.

Sent a fit pic to the chat before I even took them off and got back “wait this is so good” from one person and “I need these in every color” from another, so I guess the mansion take really was a minority report. I’ve worn them with a plain white tee, a cropped sweater, a black turtleneck, an oversized button down stolen energy shirt, I’m at five different tops now and haven’t hit a wall yet, which for a colored pant is honestly kind of insane.

Not gonna lie though, this is not a safe pick for everyone, and I’d be lying if I said it was. If you run warm or you’re doing a lot of layers underneath, this color and this volume of fabric can get sweaty and heavy fast, my one hot commute in these was rough. It’s a pick for cold weather and cold train cars specifically, not a year round situation, so don’t buy these expecting a summer rerun. My roommate still hasn’t budged on the haunted mansion thing but she also borrowed them twice this week, so.
