Okay so this whole hooded coat conversation turned into a fight about whether we walk places or not, which was not the plan. It started because I said the coat needs to fit over a hood on a hoodie AND still zip, and my roommate said that’s insane, why would you ever wear two hoods, and I said because I walk to the train and it’s cold, and she said she has literally never walked anywhere longer than a parking lot in four years. So now this whole review is secretly about that. Some of us are walking, waiting, walking again people, and some of us are car door to building door people, and the coat that’s perfect for one of us is a hot, bunchy nightmare for the other.

For the walkers, the hood is the whole point, it needs to fit over a beanie without turning your head into a bobblehead, and it needs a real zip garage so the cold doesn’t sneak in at your chin every time the wind picks up on the platform. For the door to door crowd, all of that is just extra fabric they’re going to unzip in the elevator anyway.

The layering thing is where it actually gets ugly though, not lifestyle, just logistics. I tried this coat over a hoodie over a tee like some kind of onion situation and by the third layer my arms genuinely would not bend at the elbow, I looked like I was permanently mid shrug. Sent a photo to the chat, one person said “arms up emoji,” no caption, which felt like a diagnosis. Took the hoodie off, kept a thin sweater, immediately better, actual range of motion restored.

First real cold morning, forty two degrees, I wore it on the walk to film something downtown, and I was fully bracing for regret because the coat looks a little slim for how warm it claims to be.

It held. Chin zipped up, hands in pockets, I did not text anyone complaining, which for me is basically a five star review. What did not hold was the hem, it rides up if your bag strap sits across your body, so by the time I got there the front was bunched up around my ribs like a crop top nobody asked for.

Gamble pick, not going to pretend otherwise, there’s a longer version we tried that looks incredible standing still and completely swallows anyone under five foot four the second they sit down on a train, I watched it happen, it basically became a blanket with sleeves. Great if you’re tall, funny if you’re not.

Anyway my roommate still doesn’t get why I need a hood big enough for another hood. I don’t need her to. I need it for the walk.
